Rations / Feeding |

At Windmill Farm the cows are fed a Total Mixed Ration (TMR). This means a variety of feed is mixed together using an accurately calculated ration. Each component is added to the feed wagon one by one; each being accurately weighed by the feed wagon. These components can include Grass Silage, Maize Silage, Soya, Potatoes, Minerals, Bread Waste etc. Each ingredient makes up a ration which not only optimises the milk output but also the quality. The cows are split into two, possibly three groups, depending on how long since they calved. Thouse who have recently calved will produce more milk and therefore need more food of a different mix of components. We use a Mark Townsend fro David Bardgett Ltd. to calculate and review these rations. Click on the links to view some examples of our rations. |
